Sorry about the shocking title of this post, but I thought it would grab the attention of most readers. Recently I received a review of something I had written in which a reviewer complained that I had adhered to the TEI in building a corpus. The reviewer thought that 'adherence to TEI is irrelevant and now out-of-date'. This rather shocked me. Sadly the reviewer did not say what I should have adhered to instead. Is the reviewer's view one generally shared by the community of corpus builders? Frankly I thought the view misinformed to the verge of ignorance but am prepared to be told that I am being a bit old fashioned in my loyalty to the TEI!
