From September onwards the future organization of the NLB is "on the air". At the beginning of every third month, the paper version will be sent to our subscribers. At the beginning of each month there will be a new electronic version. The electronic version will be more comprehensive than the paper version, both with respect to how many items of information it comprises and with respect to how much information it gives on each item. Once again I ask you to send us information on conferences, seminars etc., and other relevant information. We are also interested in "squibs and discussions", presentation of projects you work on, and questions to colleagues in that connection. In general, we would like the NLB to be an informal forum for discussion, in addition to a source of information. The electronic version in particular would be useful for this kind of thing. Last, but not least, we still have received far too few e-mail adresses from you. Please send your adresses to NLB@HD.UIB.NO Arne S. The emphasis lies on the general structure of linguistic information processing. The following scientists have sofar accepted to give an invited talk: Jon Barwise (Bloomington), Johan van Benthem (Amsterdam), Jens-Erik Fenstad (Oslo), Hans Kamp (Tu"bingen), Bob Kowalski (London), Steve Pulman (Cambridge), Mark Steedman (Philadelphia), Hans Uszkoreit (Saarbru"cken), This Conference is part of the Programme of European Research Conferences, organised jointly by the European Science Foundation and the Commission of the European Communities, in association with the European Physical Society, EUCHEM, and the European Unions of Societies of Experimental Biology and of Geosciences. This Programme also covers technical sciences, economics, social sciences and humanities - as well as interdisciplinary areas. The Conferences are held all over Europe. Each Conference consists of a series of discussion meetings, held typically every other year. There are no proceedings. New ideas and results discussed during the meeting should not be cited in publications without the explicit permission of their author. All participants are expected to attend for the whole duration of the Conference. The Conferences are open to scientists from all over the world. The number of active participants is limited to a total of 100. Selection is made on the basis of the affinity of potential participants with the topics of the conference. A fee covering board and lodging will be charged to participants and to accompanying guests. Some grants will be available for young researchers upon written request. Any request for a grant from a young researcher should be accompanied by a separate letter of recommendation from a senior scientist familiar with the candidate's work. Please notify any of your colleagues who may be interested in attending this conference. The fee for this conference will be 3300 French Francs in a single room and 3000 French Francs in a twin room. (Fees will be reduced by 300 French Francs if payment is arranged more than three weeks before the conference). Please do not send any payment with your application form. Successful applicants will receive the final conference programme and detailed practical information shortly after the deadline for application indicated below. Inbjudna f|rel{sare ar bl.a. prof. Peter Trudgill, England, och prof. Ernst H}kon Jahr, Troms|.
